Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the therapeutic approach, fees, and how to begin.

I provide psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults. This is a depth-oriented approach to therapy that focuses on understanding the emotional patterns, relational experiences, defenses, conflicts, and unconscious meanings that shape a person’s inner life. Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction or short-term coping strategies, this work invites a deeper exploration of how you came to feel, relate, protect yourself, and suffer in the ways you do. The goal is not simply to feel better temporarily, but to understand yourself more fully and create more lasting psychological change.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, loneliness, attachment concerns, men’s issues, trauma-related concerns, identity questions, grief, and periods of personal or professional impasse. Many people come to therapy because they feel stuck in patterns they cannot fully explain. Others may be outwardly functioning but internally struggling with self-doubt, emotional disconnection, shame, anger, sadness, or difficulty feeling close to others.

Psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy are forms of talk therapy that explore how past relationships, early experiences, unconscious feelings, and recurring emotional patterns influence your present life. This kind of therapy pays close attention to what happens beneath the surface: repeated relationship dynamics, internal conflicts, defenses, emotional avoidance, self-criticism, and the ways you may protect yourself from painful feelings. Over time, therapy can help you develop greater freedom, self-understanding, and a more authentic relationship with yourself and others.

No. Many people begin therapy with only a vague sense that something feels wrong, repetitive, painful, or unresolved. You may come in knowing exactly what you want to discuss, or you may begin with uncertainty. Part of the therapeutic process is creating enough space for thoughts, feelings, memories, and patterns to emerge over time.

A typical session involves open conversation in a confidential, attentive, and reflective setting. You are invited to speak freely about what is on your mind, whether that includes current stressors, relationships, memories, dreams, worries, bodily feelings, emotional reactions, or moments that feel confusing or difficult to put into words.

The length of therapy depends on your goals, needs, and the depth of the work. Some people come for a focused period around a particular issue, while others engage in longer-term therapy to address deeper patterns in personality, relationships, attachment, and emotional life.
